While studying piano as a child, Gavin Black was introduced to the organ and harpsichord at the age of fourteen and developed a keen interest in Baroque music. This interest soon became a calling and many nights of his freshman year at Princeton University found him in the University Chapel, practicing organ in the moonlight. At the same time, he was developing his harpsichord technique and recorded his first harpsichord album during his senior year. After earning his Master of Music degree from Westminster Choir College, Gavin became one of the nation’s top educators of harpsichord, organ and clavichord at the Princeton Early Keyboard Center, which houses an array of contemporary and antique instruments.
George Hazelrigg began playing harpsichord at the age of three after his parents commissioned the build of a harpsichord for their home, and in time became an organ and harpsichord student of Gavin Black. At 16 George began studying jazz piano and has earned critical accolades for his work with his brother Geoff in the Jazz trio Hazelrigg Brothers.

The Art of the Fugue - J. S. Bach
Brilliantly performed by Gavin Black and George Hazelrigg and meticulously captured in pure DSD, this album presents J.S. Bach’s most enigmatic work realized for dual harpsichords. With Gavin Black on a two-manual German style harpsichord by Philip Tyre and George Hazelrigg on a two-manual German style harpsichord by Keith Hill, The Art of the Fugue is realized here as a compelling and sonically astounding work.
As a bonus, this album also includes J.S. Bach’s Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue Movements 1 and 2 performed by George Hazelrigg on his Keith Hill built instrument. These tracks were produced by Gavin Black and George Hazelrigg and engineered by Doug Fearn.
